The Thrill of Playing Live!

Hi and welcome along to Music2Tattoos! Today I want to talk about the thrill of playing music to a live audience!

Having been away on holiday with my wife, daughter and Rocket the Dog for a few days I’ve had chance to take in the feelings of playing at my first large live festival and I have to say that I want more! As per one of my previous posts (click here) the band I’m in – The Rocket Dogs – played at The Willow Festival in our home town of Peterborough recently and it was just an incredible experience.

If you want to learn to play an instrument and play to a live audience, if you want to feel that thrill, then click on one of the links at the bottom of this post and get started today!

The Rocket Dogs live at The Willow Festival 2013

It’s not just playing a big festival that can get me pumped up, as a covers band we play local pubs and clubs as well and the atmosphere in some of those places can be electric. Seeing people dancing, jumping about and singing along to songs that you are playing is such an inspiring feeling.

I can walk off having played for 3 hours, be completely exhausted and yet still be bouncing because of the reaction we have got from the crowd. Having people come up to afterwards and congratulate you or just want to talk to you and tell you what a great performance it was has got to be one of the best feeelings in the world!

Surely this can’t just be me? Can it? If you get a massive thrill from playing live – no matter what type of music you play – drop me a comment and let me know how it feels to you. Click on the little speech bubble to the top right of this post and let me know your thoughts.

What was your favourite live gig / concert?

Good morning all and welcome again to Music2Tattoos!

With the Glastonbury festival just finishing here in the UK there are reports all over the radio and TV with interviews from those that were there. As usual there are those that are claiming that it was the best live gig ever! Whether the saw The Rolling Stones headline the Saturday night or Mumford and Sons headline the Sunday night they were all claiming it was the best ever!

So I started to wonder which gig I would choose as my favourite of all time……………….. and it’s a tough question to answer as I’ve seen some awesome gigs over my time! Some notbale mentions I should make are: (in no particular order)

Bon Jovi at Hyde Park, London – 92000 people and I managed to get gold circle tickets so was right at the front and they rocked the place! I turned around during the song Raise Your Hands to see hundreds of thousands of hands in the air – awesome.

Motley Crue at the NEC Birmingham – Crue were supporting Def Leppard a couple of years ago but absolutely blew them off the stage, they rocked the place from the start of the set to the end.

Buckcherry at Nottingham Rock City – Rock city is a small venue that gives such a great atmosphere and Buckcherry were amazing that night!

So there are a few of mine, now let me know yours! Drop a comment by clicking the little speech bubble to the top right of this post. I’d love to hear your thoughts and I might just put together a post on the top gig list from your comments 🙂

Let’s face it, the wildfire spread of web-based portals designed to introduce independent music to the world has created a bewildering array of opportunities and costs. So where do they all balance out? When does the cost of signing up to yet another music promotion service yield results? What results are we looking for anyway?
The key is to make your web promotion targeted, systematic and rich.
What is the main drive for independent artists promote their music on the web? The fundamental incentive for web promotion is the opportunity ………………………. to read the rest of this article Click Here Now!

The Passion of an Independent Music Artist!

Viral Music Tool Kit

Good Morning and welcome to the Tuesday Blog Post!

Well what a hectic few weeks it has been, my band has been busy beyond belief both gigging and learning new stuff to throw in to the set! But after the private party we played on Friday night we have a couple of weeks off! Our next gig isn’t until the end of April and that is for a Bikers Rally so that one should be an absolutely mad night!!

Today I wanted to talk about why indie music artists do what they do; you see the music industry is legendarily hard to get in to and yet millions of artists and bands around the world keep working hard to get themselves heard and maybe, just maybe, get that elusive recording contract.
Some of them make a very good living out of being independent and are able to sell their music around the world through the power of the web and you have to wonder if they have hit upon a formula, a secret way of creating that income stream that drawers people to their music time and time again.

I found this great article by Emilio Basa on just this subject………….

The one thing that I wanted to talk about in this article is passion. If your goal to make it in music is because you want the fame and the riches then maybe this article isn’t for you. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but many of the greatest musicians are not on MTV and on every radio station. Not to say that the dream of making it big some day is not possible. It’s totally possible. If that’s what you want, I hope you get it and are happy doing it. There is a chance that some musicians will reach the level of fame and riches, but this should not be your overall goal to make music.
Granted there is money to be made in music, but your purpose as a musician should not be for the money. The reason you should be doing music is because it is your passion in life. It’s what you love to do. It’s why you are learning
………….. to read the rest of this article CLICK HERE NOW!

It is the belief and passion that is so apparent that really grabs me; no matter what they believe in their music and they put it out there 100% day after day through whatever means they can find. It is within this passion and drive that the emotive value of music can be found. If you’ve read my previous blog posts I wrote one entitled “Why is music so emotive?” and I believe this could be the answer.
For those who love music (myself included) it can reach and grab hold of your soul very easily, it can sway you from one emotion to the next and lift you to highs that at points do not seem possible. This is the passion that drives the independent music artists and it is why independent music will never die…………………… and the mainstream music industry just might!

If you are an independent music artist I salute you, I do not have the talent to be such but I love music all the same so I encourage you to keep going and find new ways to get your music out there on the web as this is surely your best chance of success!

Indie Music Artists – A New Opportunity?

Good Morning from here in a very cold UK!

It’s supposed to be spring but it feels more like winter over here right now! Apparently at the same time last year it was 20 degrees warmer – incredible! Mind you at least I’ve got some great music to keep me warm.

Today I want to introduce the Indie Music Artists out there to something that I think could be a huge opportunity to build an audience, fans and hopefulyl sales. Mobile Apps are huge around the world and established artists are starting to use Apps as a seperate stream of advertising and now the Indie Music Artists out there can do the same!

Click Here to check out the Green App Machine

It was while walking my dog this morning (how cold was I???) that it dawned upon me what an opportunity the Mobile App is for independent music; lets have a look at the stats just for a second……………….

– There are 1 BILLION Smart Phone users in the world
– That means 1 in every 7 people have a Smart Phone
30 MILLION Apps per DAY are downloaded around the world
– Apps are the fastest growing indusrty in history!

With those sort of figures why wouldn’t you get involved? Well, the truth is that up until now Apps have been expensive to create. If you have a spare $5000 – $10,000 then you would be OK but the truth of it is that most indie music artists don’t have that sort of money. It would also take months to get all the software sorted and written and get it to market and again who has the time for that when you are putting all of your efforts in to your music and growing your reputation and audience. Fortunately now there is a different way that changes all of that!

But before I get in to that just think for a moment about making your music global through a Mobile App; you can tell all of your friends, followers, fans across Twitter, Facebook and anywhere else you advertise and they can then go and tell their friends. Imagine those people going and downloading your App and listening to your music and then buying into your music, your sound.

But here’s the best thing, the App is live to all of those people who have a smart phone and therefore they could also find your app and your music: 1 Billion smart phone users and 30 million downloads per day can’t be wrong! Oh and did I mention that it would also bring in revenue that you can pump back in to your music? That’s right, you can (if you wish) sell the App and therefore make some money to help you and your music along.

So how easy is it to create your own app? Well, you’re probably not going to believe this but it can be created in around 12-15 minutes! And the cost is a tiny fraction of what it used to be….. honestly you need to see the video and the software to believe it!

Click here now to head to The Green App Machine

WAIT! Before you head over there I want to tell you one important thing and I really need you to hear this, really tune in to what I’m saying here …………. These apps are really powerful but very few people are using them for indie music purposes yet – but it’s coming! As I said earlier in this post the big name bands are starting to use this incredible technology so you can get in ahead of the game! Head over to The Green App Machine now and get ahead of the game; this truly will be another huge step for the music industry……….. be in front!

Why is music so emotive?

Hi and welcome along to another post from Music2Tattoos!

It doesn’t matter what mood I’m in or even what mood I want to be in, music has the ability to take me away to somewhere else. Music has the ability to transform my mood and to take me from sad to happy in an instant (and the other way around sometimes)

Playing music for me is even more emotive than just listening to it; if you want to learn to play guitar and get involved with something that can change your life then check out Infinite Guitar by Clicking Here Now!

So why is music so emotive? I’d love to hear your thoughts……… add them to the comments by clicking the little speech bubble at the top right of this post! Check out the article entitled “Can Music Really Make you a Happier Person” By Duane Shinn……………….

How many times have you turned to music to uplift you even further in happy times, or sought the comfort of music when melancholy strikes?
Music affects us all. But only in recent times have scientists sought to explain and quantify the way music impacts us at an emotional level. Researching the links between
………… You can read the rest of this article by Clicking Here!

I’ve loved music from a young age and whether it be singing along in the shower or when driving, playing air guitar to a classic rock riff, playing air drums to a powerful drum beat, singing along with 50,000 others at a concert or just sitting and listening to something slower and more relaxing – there is very little else in the world that can drag me along so powerfully.

But; it wasn’t until I started playing music that I really found the true joy in it! You see it is almost indescribable the emotion that flows through you when you play along to the first song you ever learn and get it right all the way through for the first time – it feels like you’ve reached a pinnacle of experience. Then, however, joining a band and playing with other musicians is a whole other experience; it is completely different to playing along with a CD or MP3 – it’s live and fluid and suddenly you’ve reached a new height.

Then when you get to play live to an audience the feelings of fear and nervousness before hand are removed by your first round of applause…….. and then ……….. the ultimate happens…….. the audience sings along to a song you are playing! Whether you are playing a song you’ve written or a cover song it doesn’t matter; to know that people are enjoying themselves enough that they want to sing it back to you provides a rush like electric running through your body.

The first time I ever played live I was so nervous and the first set was awful; to the point that myself and the singer nearly gave up and went home! But we decided to carry on with the second set and it was like a transformation; we hit the first note of the first song and never looked back! The very last sing we played that night was “Wanted, Dead or Alive” by Bon Jovi and we had the whole place singing along.

I still remember to this day sitting in my car afterwards just screaming and shouting in delight and not getting any sleep that night! From that point on I was hooked and still am to this day! If you want to hear what my current band sound like click here to head to our soundcloud page.

If I’ve grabbed you tight enough that you want to get involved and learn to play, if I’ve found the right wave length so that you really hear what I’m saying then get involved now and get started!
