Can Tattoos be classed as a culture?

Hi all and welcome along to Music2Tattoos! and today I wanted to ask your thoughts on a question that has been running through my mind for a while now……………………….

Can tattoos (and those that have them) be classed as a culture?

For a great tattoo community check out Tattoo Me Now!

The tattoo industry has grown beyond measure with the demand for tattoos becoming one of the few growing industries it seems that it has become so large that it could almost be considered a culture of its own. When you put a group people together who have tattoos they tend to start talking about them, where and when they got them, who their artist is etc etc etc.

This community conversational feel to tattoos can even breakdown social devides as anyone can get tattoos and for any reason they choose. I’ve had many a conversation with people I don’t know about their and my ink work and I’ve thrown business towards my artist on may ocassions and I’ve been recommended to others.

So I wanted to open up the forum to you guys, what do you think? Can tattoos be classed as a culture?

Add your thoughts by clicking the little speech bubble to the top right of this post and leave me your thoughts, who will be the first to comment and put their thoughts forward?

If you want to get involved in a great community that are focussed around tattoos and the tattoo culture then Tattoo Me Now is the place to be – I love being involved; you will too!

The Thrill of Playing Live!

Hi and welcome along to Music2Tattoos! Today I want to talk about the thrill of playing music to a live audience!

Having been away on holiday with my wife, daughter and Rocket the Dog for a few days I’ve had chance to take in the feelings of playing at my first large live festival and I have to say that I want more! As per one of my previous posts (click here) the band I’m in – The Rocket Dogs – played at The Willow Festival in our home town of Peterborough recently and it was just an incredible experience.

If you want to learn to play an instrument and play to a live audience, if you want to feel that thrill, then click on one of the links at the bottom of this post and get started today!

the Rocket Dogs

The Rocket Dogs live at The Willow Festival 2013

It’s not just playing a big festival that can get me pumped up, as a covers band we play local pubs and clubs as well and the atmosphere in some of those places can be electric. Seeing people dancing, jumping about and singing along to songs that you are playing is such an inspiring feeling.

I can walk off having played for 3 hours, be completely exhausted and yet still be bouncing because of the reaction we have got from the crowd. Having people come up to afterwards and congratulate you or just want to talk to you and tell you what a great performance it was has got to be one of the best feeelings in the world!

Surely this can’t just be me? Can it? If you get a massive thrill from playing live – no matter what type of music you play – drop me a comment and let me know how it feels to you. Click on the little speech bubble to the top right of this post and let me know your thoughts.

Bon Jovi Top of European Tour Charts

Welcome once again to Music2Tattoos, today I want to look at the highest earnings tour chart of which Bon Jovi top the list!

Despite them all being in their fifties, and rifts between Jon and Richie, Bon jovi still manage to top the european polls of tours from a monetary point of view. Also , refreshingly, they have the lowest average ticket price of the top 5 rock tour bands!

Have a read of the article below from

Last month, we noted that there were too few rock artists in Forbes‘ most influential musicians list, which measured success in terms of album sales and social media presence. However, when it comes to tour sales, it seems that rock artists are still the winners.

Pollstar has named Bon Jovi as the most successful tour earner in the past six months, with the band having made $142.1 million in ticket sales. In second place is Bruce Springsteen, with the Rolling Stones rounding out third place.

Yet, while rock acts fill out the top three, established bands such as Eric Clapton, the Who and Neil Young are still being pipped to the post by the pop stars when it comes to live concerts. Those veteran acts, while still selling well, were outsold by Justin Bieber ($69.9m in six months), Pink ($61.1m) and Taylor Swift ($58.5m).

The complete Top 10 Tour Earnings list is:

1. Bon Jovi – $142.1m (ATP*: $95.60)
2. Bruce Springsteen – $103.9m (ATP: $107.19)
3. Rolling Stones – $87.7m (ATP: $346.09)
4. Fleetwood Mac – $59.1m (ATP: $107.80)
5. Paul McCartney – $43.5m (ATP:$129.58)
6. Eric Clapton – $28.4m (ATP: $89.18)
7. Muse – $25.1m (ATP: $56.92)
8. The Who – $23.5m (ATP: $98.36)
9. Neil Young – $19.1m (ATP: $97.88)
10. Dave Matthews – $18.6m (ATP: $55.87)

*Average Ticket Price

As a fan of Rock music it is great to see the highest grossing tour being a rock band but I do look at the list in slight despair as I realsie that only Muse are a relitively ‘young’ band; what is going to happen when the other 9 bands on that list decide to retire who comes next?

Where is the next stadium filling rock band coming from? Where is the next rock band that will last 20, 25 or even 30 years? As a fan of rock music it concerns me that I cannot see anyone coming through the ransk to take on the mantle!

If you think you could be the next to take on mantle and you’re dying to be the next rock god then get to it!

Leanr to play the instrument that grabs you and go do it, the audience is out there just waiting for the next big thing – make it you! Click on the links below if you want to learn to play a particular instrument…………………….

The Rocket Dogs were Live at The Willow Fest 2013

Hi there and welcome along again to Music2Tattoos! and today I have to talk about my bands performance at The Willow Festival in Peterborough over the weekend!

The Rocket Dogs

The Rocket Dogs at The Willow Festival 2013

The word excited just does not cover how we felt leading up to our performance and waiting all morning for it to come around was quite honestly hell on earth! After getting there, setting up and sound checking the wait was excrutiating until finally we got the chance to do what we do best – entertain people!

The Rocket Dogs

The Rocket Dogs live at Willow Fest 2013

As we walked on stage our drummer held aloft a huge Union Jack Flag which drew a massive cheer and round of applause and from there we knew we were in for a great time. Hundreds of people had gathered around the stage in heat which easily topped 30 degrees and they were ready to be rocked!

The Rocket Dogs

The Rocket Dogs live at The Willow Festival 2013

And rock them we did; openeing up with Basket Case by Green day the crowd started to bounce and as we ran that in to All The Small Things by Blink 182 we whipped them in to a frenzy of pure rock energy. We had just 40 minutes to fill so we knew we could put everything we had in to our performance and, despite the incredible heat, that’s exactly what we did – rocked every single person who was there!

the Rocket Dogs

Here’s the setlist from our performance:

Basket Case

All the Small Things

Whole Lotta Rosie

It’s My Life

Tainted Love – done in a Rocket Dog rock style

You Spin Me Right Round – again done in a Rocket Dog rock style

Use Somebody

I Fought The Law

All Day And All Of The Night

I Predict A Riot

Chelsea Dagger

All of that squeezed in to a high energy set and the crowd were with us all of the way! The day was topped off with Live radio interviews and poster signings……………… not bad for a covers band huh!!!!

The Rocket Dogs

Before I go I have to mention the 4 amazing guys that help me live out my rockstar wannabe fantasy and they are the guys in the band who are my friends and my brothers in arms and I love them dearly!

Mark Perks – one of the best frontmen in the area

Terry Barter – awesome gutarist and all round rock god

Michael Armstrong – keeps the beat pulsating with his hard hitting bass

Staceman Malton – the most energetic drummer I’ve seen with the flare and accuracy to match

Hi and Welcome to Music2Tattoos! and today I bring you hopeful news of a new album from the mighty Pearl Jam!

Whether you are a beginner or experienced Guitar player you will benefit from visiting

JamPlay – Click here to visit now!

While reading some articles and music news websites I found this article on about Pearl Jam, their new tour, new single and possible new album! Check out the article below…………………

As the countdown on their official website reached zero yesterday, Seattle rock veterans Pearl Jam have finally made a big announcement, confirming a fall North American tour.

But there’s more, as not only is now there a second countdown running on the website, but the band is also set to release new single “Mind Your Manners” this Thursday, almost an entire week earlier than expected. The single was previously expected to drop on July 16.

As Alternative Nation reports, local Virginia radio station will get to host the world premiere of the new tune, with an official announcement saying “Thursday, listen to Tamo at 3:00 p.m. for an XL102 World Premiere of brand new Pearl Jam music!”

Meanwhile, the five-piece also gave somewhat of a hint when it comes to the new record’s front cover with a Twitter post showing not much more than a white circle on a black background. Whether or not the photo is related to the upcoming release yet remains to be seen.

As far as the tour itself goes, the 24-date concert trek will kick off on October 11 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and stretch all the way to December 6 and the Seattle, Washington, major performance. You can check out the full itinerary below.

As the tenth record in the Pearl Jam opus, the yet-untitled album should reportedly most definitely hit the shelves by early 2014, possibly even during the current year.

The group’s current record, “Backspacer,” saw its release in September 2009 via Monkeywrench Records. With 189,000 units shipped in the US within the first week, it peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart as the only independent label chart-topper of the year.

Pearl Jam tour dates are:

10/11 – Pittsburgh – Consol Energy Center
10/12 – Buffalo – First Niagara Center
10/15 – Worcester – DCU Center
10/18 – Brooklyn – Barclays Center

Isn’t it typical that just as the UK leg of the latest Bon Jovi tour comes to an end that they announce Richie Sambora is re-joining! As a Bon Jovi fan who is a guitarist I couldn’t bring myself to go and see them without Richie playing and now it seems that, after a much extended falling out that they are getting it back together.

Check out this article from

Bon Jovi drama might be finally cooling down as axeman Richie Sambora recently hinted at returning to the ranks of New Jersey rockers.

During a chat with the Sun, Sambora called the entire matter “a family drama” that “will be resolved,” expressing his hopes for a September return.

“I’ll be in Paris with my daughter Ava while the band rocks the UK,” the guitarist said. “But let’s see what happens at the end of summer. September’s looking good. So, maybe September.”

The axeman also confirmed that he will not be performing with the group during the upcoming Hyde Park show in London, confessing he is feeling sad for skipping such a major concert.

“I am not going to be on stage at Hyde Park sadly,” he said. “It’s just not happening right now. I truly want to be there and I feel very sad for the fans that I won’t be performing.”

Sambora continued, “I love the fans, I love the band. Jon and I have been tight for like thirty years, so all of this is very sad and it affects so many people around us.”

According to the previous reports, the guitarist was furious at singer Jon Bon Jovi for basically calling him a replaceable member of the group. As initially reported, Sambora left the band in early April due to “personal issues.”

Personally I hope that they can get back together as I’m hoping they come around again so I can get to see them one more time!!
